Button Cell Selection Guide

A wide range of rechargeable button batteries are miniature, recyclable chemical power sources. Its core operating principle is based on the reciprocal migration of lithium ions between the positive and negative electrodes. These batteries are widely used in Bluetooth headsets, smartwatches, small medical monitoring devices, IoT sensor nodes, computer motherboard backup power supply, and various types of miniature remote controls, etc.

Guangdong Lidean Power Co.,Ltd, Ltd. is a company that integrates R&D, production and processing and is proficient in rechargeable lithium-ion button batteries. Not only can we produce ordinary rechargeable button batteries, but we have also developed LDA laser batteries through the innovation and efforts of our technicians. Let’s take a look at the laser battery.

Take LIR940 and LDA940 for example. In terms of appearance and structure, there are differences between the two batteries as shown in the figure below, the positive electrode of the laser battery is located in the center circle area, and the rest is the negative electrode; while the negative electrode of the common TWS Bluetooth batteries usually covers the whole smooth round surface.

The laser battery has been optimized and improved in key battery performance in three main ways.

First, the laser battery has a higher capacity. Through specific process optimization, a higher storage capacity can be achieved while maintaining the same form factor, which helps extend the single-use time of end devices.

Secondly, laser batteries can be cycled more times and for longer periods of time. Thanks to the laser sealing process, the loss of active material and structural decay of the battery during repeated charging and discharging are suppressed to a certain extent, thus showing a longer cycle life.

Thirdly, the laser battery has stronger sealing, and the use of laser sealing effectively prevents liquid leakage and improves the stability and safety of the battery in use.

The performance comparison of the two batteries is shown in the table below:

Ordinary rechargeable button batteries, with mature technology and relatively low cost, are widely used and reliable in many consumer electronics fields, and are the more common batteries. The characteristics of LDA laser batteries are suitable for scenarios with more stringent requirements on space, life and reliability.

To summarize, although laser batteries have better performance, they are too costly and therefore will be sold at a higher price. How to choose these two types of batteries should be based on the specific application requirements of the product, from the performance, reliability and cost and other dimensions to consider.
